Grout

Privacy policy

Last updated: 3 November 2026

This policy covers the Android app Grout (package com.rainybit.grout), published by rainybit.

In short

Your data stays on your phone. We don't run a server for it, we don't collect it, we don't sell or share it, and there are no ads, analytics or trackers in the app.

What the app stores, and where

On your phone, in the app's private storage:

None of this is sent to us.

Screen time (usage access)

If you turn on usage access, the app reads from Android how long apps were in the foreground today. It adds up the minutes on your phone to show your screen time, chart it, and warn you before your daily target. It also reads the names of apps that can be launched from your home screen, so it can show the app names. Nothing is sent anywhere. You can turn usage access off at any time in Android's settings.

Backup to your Google account

The app lets Android's own backup ("Backup by Google One" / Google backup) include its database and settings, so your history survives a reinstall or a new phone. That backup is made by Android, stored in your Google account, and governed by Google's privacy policy. We have no access to it. You can turn it off under Android Settings > Google > Backup. Secrets such as a server token are left out of the backup.

Optional: syncing with your own server

You can connect the app to a habits server you run (open source: https://github.com/rainybit-code/grout-server). Only if you do, the app sends your habit data to the address you enter, over HTTPS, using the token you enter. That server is yours; we don't operate it and can't see it.

Notifications

Reminders are created on the phone at the times you choose. No push service is involved.

Children

The app isn't directed at children under 13.

Deleting your data

Uninstall the app, or clear its storage in Android's app settings. To delete the Google backup copy, remove it in your Google account's backup settings. Data on a server you connected is under your control.
